Well hello there! I am currently on day one of living in a beautiful place called Guatemala and all I can say is wow!!! My day started out pretty normal, full of no expectations, then God stepped in and shook up my ground a little bit, so let me tell you what happened today.
We got up ate some breakfast and got on the bus, because we were headed to Antigua, a city full of vibrancy and life, a city I had heard so much about here in Guatemala. We get told that we will be meeting up with C squad, another gap squad, that has been on fire for the kingdom, over these last few months in Guatemala. There are leaving tonight to go to Costa Rica, so it’s kind of like we are switching places. We get there and the biggest family reunion starts. Yes we are two different squads, but we are one body in christ. One body that worshipped together, one that prayed bold prayers, for God to break the ground here in Guatemala, to be a people who are on fire for the Lord. This time was very powerful, and you bet the Lord showed up there. After time of worship we gathered together and a women who had mentored for the world race, shared a little bit about evangelism and what it means to share Jesus any and everywhere. That as you go about your day, you could have the opportunity to share some sweet news, about a my God that is alive, my God that changed my life and that He is the reason I’m living.
So, we come together as a people who are not timid, but bold humans ready to share with the beautiful people on Antigua that God is alive and that He loves the. What is super cool, is that this week is Holy Week and here in Antigua over one million people pack the streets here, to celebrate and reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus our savior.
So I get together with two girls from the other squad Gabby and Erika. And we are on our way to simply go and evangelise to some people. We did this thing called ask the Lord, ( ASL ) for short. We ask the Lord whatever He wants us to do or a place He wants us to do. Which is one of my favorite ministries. When we start walking I ask the two of them who knows the most Spanish, because your girl does not know a ton herself. We walk stop by an Atm, because I had just arrived there and we wanted to go get some lunch. So gabby had a place in mind to go to but the Lord had more. We end up getting lost trying to find this place, as we were trying to figure out where to go, Erika stops as we pass this women on the street. She starts talking and we end up praying for her, after we were done praying, right behind her was a restaurant and we go in knowing that the Lord was up to something on this street corner.
So we sit down greet the man in charge and flip through the menu. Then a women comes on it and she is passing out flyers to people in there. The flyers were manly talking about Holy Week. She then walks up to us and we start talking to her, but she does not understand us one but, and we were talking in English and Spanish. Confused, as you would probably think that we were, the waiter comes up and says “ oh yeah she is both deaf and mute. “ “Oh that makes sense”, we said. We start trying to communicate by doing some of my own sigh language that I remembered from high school. We loved this women so much, that we invite her to sit with us for some Lunch. We bought her a smoothie and some of gabbys sandwich. We start to just have the best life giving conversation. We find out her name is irma and part of her story, through writing on a page from my journal. This women taught us some sign language along the way, through many laughs and just some sweet love. Irma is a joyous women who just wanted someone to talk to, id say that was the best lunch date I could every have!! I love how going into today I asked the girls I was with if they knew Spanish, when all the Lord wanted from me was just an open heart, no plans going into the day. Sometimes just sitting with people and listening to them is the one thing that they needed to keep going! Thanks God that I was able to understand this women and be encouraged by her faith and the joy that filled up the room today.
Well that was today, keep up to date with all that the Lord is doing here, by subscribing to this blog. Also pray, pray for God to do more than show up here, but change lives. Im a big believer of it. Here is to more days like today!!
Thanks God for showing up today, through your children and showing me how abundant this life can be!
