This is a name that I’m known by, a name I am called by. A name that is asked by the most gentle of voices. These voices are full of giggles, laughs, whispers, and cries. These voices are often once quiet, but when they get to know you they are loud as can be. These voices are voices of the ones that steal my heart on the daily.

A name that gets me very excited to get up, to see what the Lord can do through it. A name that is apart of a ministry I love dearly. This name burns my heart and is the reason I wake up most mornings. This name is followed by giggles, dance moves , and silly faces. I pray they can see Jesus in all I do  During the days where I get to go to some incredible children’s homes in San Lorenzo to tutor them. On these days Im not known by Kaitlyn, but señor Kate. Im the one these kids look up to, the one that they ask all the questions, like “ What is this color, can you help me tie my bracelet, can I have that paint, brush? “

It’s these moments that bring me the most joy, the moments where I’m covered in paint because Briana saw paint for the first time and couldn’t contain her excitement. The moments I use myself as a human piece of paper, so Juan can become the artist he wants to be when he’s older.

The moments we have a break in learning so we paint our nails with real paint, ( and you bet that we used all the colors of the rainbow. ) The moments when we break out in dance and sing songs that are made up of numbers and colors. The moments that we dance in circles for no reason, manly because we are so full of joy, because God gave us the opportunity to meet. The moments we cover each other in chalk instead of the floor, because the floor is too boring.

These days are some of my absolute favorite days ever, but some days are harder than others. Some days I see a child with shoes too small for her feet, a boy that hasn’t eaten in a couple days. Yes we have to wear masks and put on little too much hand sanitizer. Yes I cant see smiles, or the grins and dimples that make a face light up and can turn your day around. Some days here get really hot and you end up sweating while setting up school on a kitchen table surrounded by lots of chickens.

Wow, but thank you Jesus that being a teacher is possible. That I can love on these children by teaching school and the most simple of things.Like how to write or draw. Sometimes it’s hard, But the hugs make it beyond worth it, seeing joy light up a home is worth it. It’s worth it because Gods in it, every step of the way. I will climb any mountain in San Lorenzo to be called seño Kate and see the Lord move in the lives of these children. This is a name I want to be called everyday. Wow, thanks God you have given this opportunity to me.

Thank you for reading this blog, I love what I get to do, because Gods always in it. Life is almost coming to a close here in Guatemala , so going all into what God has here is a big focus of mine this last month on the field. Please be praying for this next month and all the Lord has in store for it. I love you all very much, talk to you soon!! Love Kate!
