Yes, you saw that right I am doing chicken ministry, it may seem a little weird, but let me give you a glimpse into this fun, sometimes hard ministry. So for most days out of the week, you will find me in a beautiful village called San Lorenzo! Here in San Lorenzo I am partnering with a ministry called one way. One way simply meets the many needs that this community has. One of them being chicken ministry!
So throughout this village, full of fun vibrant people, there are ten families, that one way has given chickens to. These families simply grow and feed these chickens with the food provided for them. Then when the chickens lay their eggs, the family gets to keep a carton and the rest comes back to one way, to buy more food for the chickens and give back to the community.
I absolutely love this, I wish you could meet the people I have met, that have been impacted through this ministry! To you this may be simple and nothing important, but for the people here, buying eggs and food to feed their family everyday is hard. Oh I wish you could see the smiles of joy on these peoples faces!
Now here is a glimpse of this amazing ministry, helping meet the needs of the families here in San Lorenzo.
So most days you are walking around two hours up and down the hills of San Lorenzo, to collect the many eggs to sell.
Here is an example of a chicken coop in a families home. Most times you can find them in the living room, near the kitchen table, or in the bedroom.
Here we are sitting in a women’s ouse who every time we come to pick up the eggs, gives us chairs to sit on and watermelon to eat! This was probably the best watermelon I’ve ever eaten. One thing I cant explain really well , is the heart of the people here. Most of them don’t have enough food for a single day, but they still give from the little that they have to show their appreciation for us. Such genuine love.
One thing that pushes me to continue in this ministry when it gets hard, because sometimes those hills are hard to climb. Is that if Jesus were at the top of that hill , I would give all I could to give them to him, so why wouldn’t I do it for someone else. I will give all I can to help some else, no matter how hard it is! A verse that has touched my heart and is the reason for all I do is. Is Matthew 25;40 and Jesus says, “Whatever you do for the least of these, little ones, my brothers and sisters, you are doing for me.” Thats why I give everything ti the people around me, cause Jesus would do it too!
OK, I am now crying…. what a great reminder and wonderful inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing this, Kaitlyn! To God be the glory, forever and always!
xoxo
